Sultan of Johor Passed Away, The Whole Malay World Struck in Grief

Johor, MelayuOnline – The whole world of Malay condole on the death of one of Malaysia’s best sons, the Sultan of Johor, Iskandar ibni Almarhum Sultan Ismail, who passed away on Friday (22/01) night, at 07.15 p.m. Malaysian time due to bad health. The late Sultan Iskandar who once held the position of Yang Dipertuan Agung Malaysia (1984-1989) in the era of Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad departed at the age of 77 in the Specialist Hospital in Johor Baru, Malaysia.

At 11.15 p.m. Malaysian time, the body of the Sultan was brought to the Istana Besar of Johor Sultanate to receive last homage. The royal family of Johor Sultanate and a number of Malaysian government high officials followed the escort bringing the body from the hospital to Istana Besar. Malaysian Grand Minister, Datuk Ghani Othman, announced to public that they could render the last honors to the late Sultan in Istana Besar today (23/01) from 09.00 to 10.30 a.m. While for VIP guests, the time is scheduled right after the first session that is from 11.00 to 12.00 a.m.

The funeral is planned to be in the Royal Mausoleum at 14.00 today. The late Sultan Iskandar had been hospitalized in the Specialist Hospital in Johor Baru since Thursday (21/01) night due to undiagnosed illness. In the year of 2000, Sultan Iskandar had a cardiovascular bypass operation in the United States and later in January 2008, precisely two years ago, was diagnosed to have bronchitis.
