Banjarmasin, MelayuOnline.com - After having served with Badadapatan by the Governor of South Kalimantan last night, the participants of Banjar Cultural Congress II were, again, served with Badadapatan by the Mayor of Banjarmasin, Drs. H. Yudhi Wahyuni on Tuesday, April 6, 2010.
The team of the congress participants left for the Mayor Office at around 8 pm Central Indonesian Time. The banquet had been scheduled by the committee and was intended as Banjarmasin Municipal Government’s gratitude to all the congress participants. Attending the banquet were the members of Regional Executive Conference and the department head of the Municipal Government of Banjarmasin.
“Ladies and gentlement, it is my pleasure to have you back in Banjarmasin. It’s been a while,” said Yudhi Wahyudi in his speech.
The banquet was an impressive cereminoal for the participants. For some of them, it was their first visit to their origin, Banjarmasin, and other cities in South Kalimantan after all these years.
According to Mayor Yudhi Wahyudi, an alumnus of Gontor Modern Penitentiary in Ponorogo, the city of Banjarmasin underwent a rapid development.
“Therefore, no wonder if participants who have not visited Banjarmasin in a long period are unfamiliar with this city of Banjar cultural icon,” said Yudhi Wahyudi.
Yudhi added that currently, Banjarmasin is the 9th biggest metropolitan in Indonesia. The economic development of Banjarmasin is supported by Banjar people in all migration areas.
Besides the Mayor, Head of BKPBM Mahyudin Al Mudra also delivered his speech on behalf of the congress participants.
“It is my honor to speak on behalf of the congress participants,” said Bang MAM in his black Sasaringan safari suit.
MAM elaborated that Banjar migrators are the real ambassadors of Banjar culture. Certainly, the scope of the ambassadors of Banjar depended on their migration.
“The Mayor of Banjarmasin will not need to find an ambassador of Banjar. We are the true ambassadors of Banjar. No charge. But a Sasaringan is welcome,” said Bang MAM followed by the participants’ applause.
Bang MAM and the rest of the participants were having a great time for being served by the Mayor of Banjarmasin. More gaiety was felt when MAM delivered some new words from the MC of the banquet.
“I did not understand the meaning of mangariau until the Mayor informed me. It turns out that mangariau means to call,” said MAM. Then he went on with some other Banjar words he just found.
After the speech of the congress representatives and the Mayor, the Mayor of Banjarmasin gave a remembrance to the representative of Banjar abroad. Conversely, some representatives gave souvenirs to the Mayor.

In addition to the banquet, the visit of the congress participants was enlivened with the performance of Patuah dance of Taman Budaya Kalimantan Selatan. The dance depicts human life cycle and was performed beautifully by Banjar youth. (ATP/brt/23/4-10)
