Youth camp participants told to promote Maluku

Youth camp participants told to promote Maluku

Ambon, Indonesia - Maluku representatives in the upcoming National Youth Camp in Pontianak, West Kalimantan, are expected to promote the prevailing conducive situation in their province.

"The representatives of Maluku will promote the already conducive and peaceful situation in our province after the 1999-2002 sectarian violence," head of the Maluku Youths and Sports Affairs office Salim Kairotty said here on Sunday.

He made the statement at a function to dispatch some 32 youths to the West Kaliamantan provincial city of Pontianak to participate in the National Youth Camp from June 1 to 6, 2010.

Kairotty also told them to promote the international marine event of Sail Banda which is to be held in July and August this year.

"Sail Banda 2010 is an event to restore and improve the image of Maluku province to the outside world, and therefore all parties including the youths need to promote it as well as possible," Kairotty said.

He also asserted that Sail Banda, organized by the Maluku provincial administration in cooperation with central government, was aimed at restoring international confidence in the province which is now peaceful and conducive to both domestic and foreign tourists to visit after being hit by a sectarian violence from 1999 to 2002.

Kairotty said the youths representing Maluku in the National Youth Camp in Pontianak should be able to exchange views and information with the participants from other provinces, and to promote the art, cultural, and tourism potentials of Maluku.

He also expressed hope that the youths from Maluku would abide by all the regulations and programs for positive interaction and communication, besides gaining wide experience and knowledge from the National Youth Camp.

"Try to obtain as much knowledge and experience as possible from the event," Kairotty said, adding that they were also expected to create independent job opportunities to lower the unemployment rate in Maluku.(*)
