5,000 Youths Gather For `Tedarus`

Bandar Seri Begawan, Beunri Darussalam - About 5,000 youths nationwide yesterday congregated for a mass tadarus ceremony at Jame’ ‘Asr Hassanil Bolkiah, which also saw the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Hj ’Abdul ’Azim.

The gathering was organised to enliven the holy month of Ramadhan with religious activities that are beneficial and aimed to raise awareness and appreciation on the importance of Al-Quran as a guide in meeting life challenges among youths.

The Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports said that the ceremony was also hoped to strengthen and reflect the determination of youths in realising His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s aspiration to produce an Al-Quran generation.

Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Paduka Hj Hazair Hj Abdullah added that the presence of His Royal Highness at yesterday’s ceremony meant that he is a role model and inspiration for youths in the country, in terms of seizing the opportunity to get blessings during the month of Ramadhan through reciting verses from the Al-Quran.

The minister said that this also grants the opportunity for youths to self-reflect on their roles and responsibilities to become strong-spirited and successful towards their parents, community, king, religion and country to prepare for future challenges in the globalisation and technological era.

The ceremony began with the recital of the Surah Al-Fatihah by Pg Hj Haslin Pg Hj Ali, acting senior officer of Jame’ Asr Hassanil Bolkiah.

A religious talk was also delivered by Ustaz Hj Mail Besar, head of the Research and Publication Division at Islamic Da’wah Centre.

During his talk, "Strong-Spirited Youth", he spoke on the importance of youth conducting activities that will contribute to them being better citizens and able to give back to the community and country.

The Khatam Al-Quran ceremony was led by Hj Abdullah Al-Hafiz, scholar from Seri Begawan Religious Teaching University College (KUPU SB) with the recital of the tahlil led by Pg Hj Haslin Pg Hj Ali.

The event ended with a mass Zuhur prayer, led by Muhammad Fahmie Hj Metussin.

Organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Religious Affairs, the mass tadarus ceremony involved youths from higher education institutions, secondary schools, youth and sports associations and uniformed associations.

Also present at the ceremony were Minister of Education Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Abu Bakar Hj Apong, Minister of Religious Affairs Pg Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad Pg Hj Abdul Rahman and Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Othman.
