Batik Sculpture Artists to be Sent to Indonesia for Advanced Training

Bhopal, India - The Batik sculpture artists of Bherogarh in Ujjain district will be sent to Indonesia to learn the art of better sculpturing. The Madhya Pradesh Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation in coordination with the Textile Ministry of the Union Government will send these artists to Indonesia under a scheme for training in sculpture arts.

Handicrafts, particularly of Indonesia’s batik sculpture arts are very popular in the world. The batik sculpture artists of Bherogarh are engaged in this profession since several generations and this has been their source of living. Batik sculpture art of Bhairogarh has its separate identity, popularity and importance. With a view to polish their sculpture art and to learn best batik sculpture art, four artists are being sent to Indonesia.

The batik sculpture artists who would be sent to Indonesia include M/s Mujeeb Abdul Rahman, Mohammed Asif, Syed Majim and Mohammed Vasim. They will get advanced training from the Batik Katura Institution of Indonesia from September 24 to October 3. M P Handicrafts Development Corporation’s Ujjain branch manager Shri V K Joshi and designer of National Institute of Designing, Gwalior Ms. Abhilasha Dwivedi will be accompanying the artists. The training is expected to increase demand on the sculptures made by the artists.

It may be mentioned here that the Madhya Pradesh Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation is running different types of schemes for the benefit of sculpture artists and weaving artists. Among them are training programme, technical advice, organising workshops, study tours etc. The Government of India and the state government are providing financial assistance to them under different schemes.
