Austria`s First Lady Marvels at Indonesian Cultural Heritages
Jakarta, Indonesia - Austria‘s First Lady, Margit Fischer, was shown some of Indonesia‘s local wisdom and cultural heritages during a presidential exhibition in the State Guest House here Wednesday.
Margit Fischer came to Indonesia to accompany her husband, President Heinz Fischer, on his three-day visit to Indonesia.
On the occasion, Indonesian First Lady Ani Yudhoyono showed her Austrian counterpart some of the country‘s centuries-old heritages such as batik , songket Palembang, and woven cloth from Nusa Tengara.
Margit also had the chance to make batik on a plain fabric guided by a batik artist from the IndonesianTextileMuseum.
Besides exhibiting the country‘s traditional fabric products, the Austrian first lady was also shown several bronze age jewelry and relics from Kutai Kertanegara, Dayak tribal accessories, the East Nusa Tenggara readitional music instrument the Sasando.
After enjoying the hospitality of traditional heritage, she enthusiastically paid attention to every historical explanation and the relics.
Later in the day, the Austrian President and his wife attended a state luncheon in the StatePalace.
The Austrian President and his wife arrived in Indonesia on November 9, 2010 and had since signed an inter-faith dialog cooperation enhancement agreement.
Indonesia and Austria also agreed to cooperate in the development of environmentally friendly energy sources and to increase bilateral trade and investment. (*)
