M’sian Heritage Body Finds Common Ground with Local Counterparts

Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam - In a bid to foster closer relations between Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam in particular in the areas of history, culture, and heritage, eight members of the Negeri Selangor Malay Culture and Heritage Body, (PADAT) visited the Brunei History Centre.

The group, led by Azlinda bte Azman, was met by the Head of the Historic Centre, Pehin Jawatan Dalam Seri Maharaja Dato Seri Utama Dr Haji Awang Mohd Jamil Al Sufri as well as senior members and staff of the History Centre.

PADAT’s objective of visiting the History Centre was to learn more about Brunei Malay heritage and traditions, in particular the areas of culture and the welfare of the Malay people.

PADAT also looked into the Malay Islamic Monarchy concept, which is unique to Brunei Darussalam.

They argued that Negeri Selangor and Malaysia also have Sultans and that Brunei’s philosophy of the Malay Islamic Monarchy was a good comparison where there was a mutual footing among Malays in both countries.

The head of the Brunei History Centre briefed the visitors on Brunei’s concept of the Malay Islamic Monarchy where it has been instilled in Brunei’s culture and traditions as well as a way of life in Brunei.

Meanwhile, History Officer Mardiah bte Hj Ramli briefed the delegates on the roles and responsibilities of the centre since its establishment in 1982.

To better understand the Malay culture and heritage, the PADAT members also visited the museums and the Royal Regalia Building. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
