Holiday Inn Dubai – Al Barsha to Host Exotic Batik Fashion Show
Dubai, UAE - On Monday, November 22nd , the Holiday Inn Dubai – Al Barsha, played host to the second Fusion Fashion Show of traditional Indonesian and Indian Batik outfits. The event took place at Xennya Terrace from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. All outfits were on sale after the show and proceeds generated from those were donated to be used for any catastrophes in Indonesia.
“Batik” or “the Art of little dots” can be traced back to ancient time. A fine batik is really hard to find especially in this part of the world though it is quite popular with international designers using ethnic material and techniques. Mr. Reda Moukhtar, General Manager, Holiday Inn Dubai – Al Barsha said, “We are proud to promote this fashion show. It celebrates the history and rich tradition of Indonesia's ancient style and beauty”.
The collection shown at Holiday Inn Dubai Al Barsha was designed by Susie Rewita, and is extremely versatile. Batik is less a craft and more a passion for Susie whose flamboyant creations have earned her a terrific reputation. Her bold, graphic prints and simple shapes are a gutsier take on traditional designs. She said, “Bursting with vivacity, these help you to stay stylish whether you are going from the beach to the bar or lazing round the pool or going on a picnic.”
Batik is synonymous with traditional luxury garments, crafted to perfection, incorporating superb and intricate tailoring techniques, unique designs and the best available materials. It offers wonderful shapes with fabulous architecture of the clothes.
In 2009, UNESCO designated Indonesian Batik as: “a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity”. As part of the acknowledgment, UNESCO insisted that Indonesia preserve their heritage.
