Indonesian Consulate General Participation in the Cultural Evening, Hamara Karachi Festival

Karachi, Pakistan - The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Karachi participated in the "Cultural Evening", organized by Hamara Karachi Foundation recently at the Jehangir Kothari Parade, Clifton, Karachi.

This event is one of the series of Hamara Karachi Festival which is annually organized by Hamara Karachi Foundation to promote peaceful life in Karachi, and bring people closer to each other, among others by organizing cultural events such as donkey cart racing, peace-and-solidarity walks, interfaith dialogue, and cultural evening.

In the Cultural Evening attended by more than 2000 (two thousands) people, the Indonesian Consulate General in Karachi performed 4 (four) dances by the Indonesian children, namely: Blantek dance, Badindin dance, Tanjung Katung dance, and the last dance (Poco-poco) performed on the special request by Mrs. Nasreen Jalil, who was very impressed with such the dance at every closing performances, organized by the Indonesian Consulate General in Karachi. Blantek dance from Jakarta was selected as the opening dance and followed by the Pakistani artists performance such as Amjad Rana performed Candle dance, Shemma Kirmani (Kathak dance) and song by Sattar Sheikh.

At the conclusion of the event, President of Hamara Karachi Foundation, Mrs. Nasreen Jalil expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the participation of the Indonesian Consulate General and said that the Indonesian Consulate General in Karachi is one of the foreign missions in Karachi which has regularly been participating in the Hamara Karachi Festival, annually held since 2007. Mrs. Jalil also said that she has invited some other foreign consulate general in Karachi to participate and perform their cultural show, but only the Indonesian Consulate General in Karachi responded positively and participated in the event.

On that occasion, the Indonesian Consul General in his remarks, among others stated Pakistan is a close friend of Indonesia and the relations between the two countries have been established since long time, both countries have excellent relations. Indonesia, which has some similarities with Pakistan, including a state with a Muslim majority, will continue to give attention and solidarity to the people of Pakistan, including the participation in the Hamara Karachi Festival. The participation of the Indonesian Consulate in this event is a reflection of Indonesian efforts to send message of peace, harmony and tolerance, which is also equally ideals for the whole nations in the world, including Pakistan and Indonesia.

Although the security conditions of Karachi is still not conducive, which is marked by the deployment of a large number of security forces throughout the event, Indonesian performances at the Cultural Evening, Hamara Karachi Festival, has warmly greeted and appreciated by thousands of Karachi’s people. The whole event was also covered by local media. The Indonesian Consulate General will continue to promote culture and arts, tourism and convey a message of peace, tolerance and harmony, through the Indonesian performances, and it is expected to further enhance the positive image of Indonesia in the province of Sindh in particular and Pakistan in general.
