Singapore hopes to create new legacy by hosting Youth Olympic Games

Singapore hopes to create new legacy by hosting Youth Olympic Games

Singapore- The International Olympic Committee is confident that if Singapore hosts the Youth Olympic Games in 2010, the country will execute its role efficiently.

That`s why the IOC has chosen Singapore to be one of the two finalists bidding to host the inaugural games.

This is according to Community Development, Youth and Sports Minister, Dr Vivian Balakrishanan who spoke to reporters after gracing the Thaipusam Festival.

He said: "Moscow is a large, big, powerful city. They have done this before, have a good track record and are a very safe pair of hands."

"What we are offering in comparison, in contrast almost, is the small, young, multi-racial city. A city which would never have any chance of hosting the main Olympic events. So we are asking IOC members to vote for a change in the routine to take some risks," he continued.

Dr Balakrishan is hoping that the IOC will rise to the challenge and create a new legacy of letting Singapore to host the inaugural games.

He added that Singapore`s bid was not dependant on the availability of the new National Stadium.

He said that the floating stadium in Marina Bay provides a wonderful backdrop for the opening and closing ceremony which will really help to showcase Singapore.
