Riau Governor and entourage visit MelayuOnline.com

MelayuOnline.com, Yogyakarta– Riau Governor H.M. Rusli Zainal and entourage visited the office of MelayuOnline.com in the Balai Kajian dan Pengembangan Budaya Melayu-BKPBM (Centre for Research and Development of Malay Culture), Wednesday May 16^th, 2007. In his visit, the Governor was accompanied by several important figures: H. Septina Rusli Zainal (Head of Dekranasda), drh. H. Chaidir, MM (Chairman of Riau House Representative), Drs. H.R. Mambang Mit (Riau Government Seceretary), K.H. Bahtiar Daud (Religious Leader), H. Azali Johan (Head of Riau Customary Institution), H. Imron (Key Figure of Javanese Community in Riau) and other staff of Riau Province.

Informal meeting and launch commenced the visit. Afterwards, the Governor, accompanied by the entourage, looked closely all facilities and activities of the Center. He also observed how the staff collected and uploaded the data to the website MelayuOnline.com. Presentation on MelayuOnline.com came after, which was delivered by the Head of BKPBM.

In his presentation, the Head of BKPBM Mahyudin Al Mudara explained the vision and mission of the Center. One of its activities is the launching of MelayuOnline.com, envisioned as the comprehensive portal on the Malay world. Further, Mahyudin said, MelayuOnline.com is one of his attempt to “Melestarikan Tradisi Melayu Dengan Cara Yang Tidak Tradisional” (uphold the Malay culture by non-traditional way). MelayuOnline.com augurs well for the sustainability of Malay culture. It is hoped in the future that MelayuOnline.com will be the most comprehensive digital library on the Malay wolrd, which can be accessed at any time and in any place.

In his comment, Riau Governer H.M. Rusli Zainal appraised the idea, concept, and activities of MelayuOnline.com. The Governor made commitment as well to support the portal in form of either data or fund to develop the vision and mission of MelayuOnline.com. The Governor also hoped that MelayuOnline could contribute to the creation of Riau Province as the hub of Malay in South East Asia, as stated in the vision of Riau 2020.

In line with that, the Chairman of Riau House Representative drh. Chaidir, M.M, said, he would give full support to the development of MelayuOnline.com. “MelayuOnline.com is a futuristic and excellent endeavor to make Malay Culture recognized all over the world through online media. I see the determination of the staff, lot of data, then i am optimistic that someday MelayuOnline.com will be the most comprehensive portal on Malay world. It is an advantage point for Riau”, said Chaidir.

As a key figure of Javanese community in Riau, Imron Sahiman also appreciated the portal of MelayuOnline.com. In his view, the portal had contributed to giving the complete picture of Malay culture to the world. This attempt would influence the relation between Javanese culture and Malay. The visit was closed by the praying recited by K.H. Bahtiar Daud. At 14.30 p.m., the Governor and entourage left BKPBM.
