Poor Understanding of Malaysia Formation Leads to Negative Sentiments
Kuala Lumpur- Opposition parties have been urged to help the federal government in nurturing patriotism among the young to safeguard unity and curb negative sentiments such as disobeying the Malay rulers.
"The young will suffer if we don`t become a role model like respecting other races, religions and the Malay rulers," said Unity, Culture, Arts and Heritage Minister Datuk Mohd Shafie Apdal.
"If we don`t play our role, how are we going to create a nation? We want to strengthen nationalism among the people," he said in reply to Datuk Dr Marcus Mojigoh (BN-Putatan) in Dewan Rakyat here today.
Mohd Shafie said each citizen should understand the history of the country`s formation and the racial background. "The Federal Constitution and principles of the Rukun Negara must be understood and appreciated so that unity can be preserved," he added.
