Acting MOE minister in working visit to schools

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Acting Minister of Education paid a working visit to two educational institutes in the Brunei Muara District yesterday to observe and scrutinise students` and teachers` progress especially in religious studies.

Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji Abdul Rahman continued his series of working visits to Pengiran Pekerma Setia Diraja Sahibul Bandar Primary School in Kampong Perpindahan Mata-Mata and Menglait Secondary School on Gadong.

The Ministry of Education is continuously working to augment student progress especially in key subjects like Science, Mathematics, English Language, Malay Language and Melayu Islam Beraja, which are mandatory in the primary and secondary curriculum.

He was briefed on the background and current achievements in religious studies by the students of respective school. The Acting Minister then toured both the schools, visiting a few classes and observing the extent of the students` Quran reading efficacy and other practical activities.

He advised that the respective schools form an intensive programme to assist weaker students to help increase their capabilities.

Amenities and facilities were not left unchecked as the Acting Minister inspected the schools` surau and ablution area.

He also emphasised the importance of SPN 21, a partially implemented educational programme aimed at increasing the national standard of education, and how subjects like Bahasa Melayu, religious studies and Melayu Islam Beraja are to be given the same emphasis as other subjects. (By Narissa Noor)
