Lanting House and Social Pattern in the Kapuas River

Lanting House and Social Pattern in the Kapuas River

Sanggau, MelayuOnline.com- On Sunday (20/07) 6.37 a.m., MelayuOnlone.com‘s crews arrived on the riverbank of the Kapuas River, 300 meters from Surya Negara Sanggau Palace. That was an awesome view watching the daily activities local inhabitants of Sanggau District living around the river. The Kapuas‘s tranquillity offered a fresh atmosphere after eight-hour journey from Pontianak.

“That was amazing, how about taking a boat and sailing along the Kapuas River while observing Lanting houses along the riverbank?” Hadi Kurniawan asked.

All MelayuOnline.com‘s crews agreed with Kurniawan‘s idea. There was a boat passing through the crews. Since then, Lukman Solihin, Ahmad Salehudin, Khidir Marsanto, and a famous photographer – Aam Ito Tistomo, got onto the boat for hanging around the surrounding location while enjoying the tiny wave of the Kapuas River.

The day was too early; hence, the crews might be able to see the daily activities of surrounding people. All Sanggau people‘s activities were centred in the brown water of the Kapuas River. Some people were taking a bath and washing cloths, while the other was using the river as ‘natural toilet.‘

The crews spent several minutes to visit a Lanting house along the riverbank of the Kapuas River. The crews entered a house to observe the detail. In this 12-meter square house, living room, bed room, and kitchen are placed in a single room, no wall separating them. A pet living along with the owner makes the house seems dense.

After spending the time documenting and observing Lanting house, the crews moved to another place to gain information. The next destinations were Jamae Mosque of Sultan Ayyub (1828 A.D.), a 200-year Malay Limas House, and other historical palaces in Sanggau District.
