BKPBM Holds Dialogue on `Optimizing Yogyakarta Tourism Development`
Yogyakarta, MelayuOnline.com- Yogyakarta is often related to a title as the city of culture and the city of student. Likewise, some people call Yogyakarta as the tourism city.
Unfortunately, there are only three destinations that most people notice in Yogyakarta that are Malioboro, Prambanan Temple, and Borobudur Temple. Obviously, some other destinations are as beautiful as those three destinations, but the lack of programmes to develop the other destinations make them ignored.
Such opinion was aired by Halim, the Head of Promotion Division of Yogyakarta Tourism Development Board, who was appointed as the main speaker of a dialogue on “Optimizing Yogyakarta Tourism Development” held by the Center for Research and Development of Malay Culture (BKPBM) on Saturday (16/8/08). Came also to the dialogue were Nana Kristiana – Nusantara Travel and Tour; Fuad Asyari –Tourindo Tour and Travel; Bustanul Arifin – Mandiri Bank branch Gejayan; and several students of Gadjah Mada University.
The dialogue was begun by the Daily Executive of BKPBM, Hadi Kurniawan. On his remark Kurniawan said that people, nowadays, turn their heads to tourism industry as the main bread and butter for meeting their daily needs.
Specifically, Halim expressed his appreciation to BKPBM for promoting Indonesian tourism including Yogyakarta to the world through MalayTourism.com. Halim admitted that Yogyakarta Tourism Development Board has attempted to attract more tourists to visit Yogyakarta and spend longer in Yogyakrta by organizing some events.
“We have tried to promote Yogyakarta Tourism by organizing various events. By that way, we hope that some other tourism destinations excluding the three Yogyakarta limelights (Prambanan Temple, Malioboro, and Borobudur Temple-red) would be visited by tourists either local or international,” Halim added.
The second speaker on that dialogue was Nana Kristina who suggested Yogyakarta Tourism Development Board to more actively promote Yogyakarta tourism by giving video compact discs (VCD) containing Yogyakarta tourism profile to tourists visiting Yogyakarta.
By such way, she assessed that people owning that VCDs will introduce their friends. Hence, Yogyakarta tourism promotion runs automatically amongst visitors. To some extent, she suggested that more number of creative and unique events should be more improved by Yogyakarta Tourism Development Board.
In a question-answer session, some participants enthusiastically gave useful opinions for a better development of Yogyakarta tourism. Almost all participants possess the same opinion that promoting tourism through the internet is necessary to be done such as what BKPBM does through MalayTourism.com.
