Drought crisis slightly eases off
Chairman of the Government`s Special Committee overseeing drought situation said the crisis eased up after rainfalls in many areas and artificial rains made.
Deputy Prime Minister Major General Sanan Kajornprasart as Chairman of the Government`s Special Committee overseeing drought said that the committee has delegated responsibilities to related agencies, including Agricultural and Cooperatives Ministry and Interior Ministry to follow up drought problems in each area of all provinces. Also, responsible authorities in the provincial level are assigned to report the situation on a weekly basis.
The Deputy Prime Minister said he would soon convene the National Water Committee to consider the general water management; for example, increasing the water volume in reservoirs, develop water resources like in Yom and Mekong basin to have enough water for whole year consumption.
These mega projects require a lot of budget. Anyway, Major General Sanan said the issues were in process and required further consideration. Santibhap Ussavasodhi
