Zawiyah Gets Outstanding S.E. Asian Librarian Award
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Datuk Zawiyah Baba, a Principal Research Fellow at the Institute of the Malay World and Civilization in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, recently received the Outstanding Librarian Award (Gold Medal) at the Congress of Southeast Asian Librarians (CONSAL) conference in Hanoi, the Congress announced today.
Zawiyah, who is noted for her contribution and leadership in the national and international library community, was also the first Malaysian to be awarded by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) at its 73rd Conference in Durban, South Africa two years ago.
Between 2001 and 2005, Zawiyah was Director-General of the National Library before she retired from government service.
Before Zawiyah, another Malaysian librarian, Datuk Dr Zaiton Osman, also received the CONSAL Outstanding Librarian award in 2003 in Brunei.
Presently, Zawiyah is undertaking work on the documentation and digital preservation of a special collection on traditional Malay woodcarvings in Kelantan and a roll-out of the Malaycivilization.com portal.
