Sepaktakraw Goes To Hambantota, Nawalapitiya
Colombo, Sri Lanka - The amateur Sepaktakraw Association of Sri Lanka has embarked on a vigorous drive to popularize the game - similar to volleyball but played with a rattan ball without the use of hands - in the provinces and amongst rural youth.
The association`s target is to increase the number of outstation teams at their next national championships and at the same time increase the competitive levels and skills and thereby reach the required standard to compete against Asian power-houses.
The Association under the leadership of its president T.Nizam Hajireen (a double international in rugby and football) and an energetic ex-co comprising of vice president T.F. Ousmand, Hony Secretary M.A. Sedar and the Technical staff consisting of D. Priyakantha, M. Inshanullah, T. Zahiran and Sampath Perera visited various Malay Associations in Hambantota and thereafter Nawalapitiya to promote and foster the game. They met T. Marjan ofRuhunu Malay Association and T.K. Samath of Nawalapitiya Malay Association and they have taken great pains to train the youth in those areas.
The Sepaktakraw Association next plans to visit Kurunegala and Trincomalee.
The Sepaktakraw Association conducts practices at the Shalika Grounds, Narahenpita on weekends from 7 am onwards free of charge. All those who are interested are requsted to attend these practice sessions. RA
