Malay Contractors Urged To Hone Their Skills, Expertise
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Malay and Bumiputera contractors must hone their skills in the sectors of information technology, tourism, and oil exploration to get projects from major companies and government linked companies (GLC), Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government Datuk Seri Lajim Ukin said.
With experience and specialised skills, the contractors will not have to depend solely on government projects, and indeed they will be capable of securing projects from other sources, he said.
Having the skills and experience in particular fields, the contractors will be able to secure large projects from major companies such as Petronas, Tenaga Nasional Bhd and GLCs, he said.
Speaking to reporters after officiating the Annual Summit of the Association of Malay Contractors Malaysia Federal Territory here Tuesday, Lajim said Malay and Bumiputera contractors have been also asked to voice out their problems to the government if they do not agree with a particular policy introduced by the government.
The government will consider their opinions for the betterment of all, he said.
At its meeting here earlier, the association`s members called on the government to review the Industrial Building System policy to reduce the problems faced by contractors. It also called for a fair distribution of projects through the stimulus package.
