Try: `Pendet` Case Due To Lack Of Ri-M`Sia Communications

Jakarta - The Indonesian chairman of the Eminent Persons Group (EPG) on Indonesia-Malaysia relations, Try Sutrisno, said the "Pendet" case would not have happened if there had been good communications between the two nations.

Speaking to newsmen after a meeting with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono at the lattter`s office here on Friday Try said what he meant by communications was joint efforts in promoting culture and tourism as recommended by the EPG to their respective governments.

"If there had been cultural cooperation with regard to the depiction of the Pendet dance, the situation would not be like this," he said.

The EPG was set up in 2008 in the two countries and it was assigned to give inputs on efforts to increase the quality of the two countries` relations.

Its members are figures with capability to settle problems relating to the two countries` relations.

Try Sutrisno, who is a former vice president, said the two countries` EPGs had made and submitted recommencations relating to efforts to boost the two countries` relations in various sectors and prevent possible problems arising from the interactions between the two countries` communities.

Try said that indeed in the case of an Indonesian cultural icon being used for business purposes certain mechanism and regulations would be needed.

He said Indonesia had already implemented some of the recommencations while based on his visit there on September 8 and 9, implementation in Malaysia had not yet been as expected probably because it had just finished leadership transition.

Try however said he was optimistic the recommendations would be implemented optimally in Malaysia because Prime Minister Najib Razak had expressed his committment during a meeting with him.

Try Sutrisno was accompanied by other Indonesian EPG members in the meeting with President Yudhoyono.

President Yudhoyono plans to visit Malaysia early next month to hold talks with Prime Minister Najib Razak on various issues.
