School`s S Asean Gallery Launched

Kuala Belait - Sungai Liang Primary School commemorated Asean‘s 40th anniversary with the launch of its Asean Gallery at a ceremony held yesterday.

According to Hjh Jaiton HjBungso, the school‘s headmistress, the Asean Gallery which was formerly known as Asean Corner, displays historical, socio-economic and . cultural materials collected from all Asean member countries. The gallery, she said, was a centre for students to learn more about Asean and keep abreast with the latest development in the region.

The school also organised a number of activities to coincide with the anniversary, such as a writing competition, an Asean flag colouring contest, a fashion show where the students were dressed up in different national Asean clothings and a singing competition of traditional Asean songs.

There was also and Asean booth competition for teachers which give them opportunity to take part in the celebrations.

Officiating at the launch of the Asean Gallery was Hj Shuani Hj Kadir, assistant senior district education officer, who also presented prizes to winners of the competitions.

The setting up of Asean Corner was an initiative of the Primary Schools Department of the Ministry of Education which started in 2005. It was part of the department‘s efforts to raise awareness among the pupils on Asean, particularly on the various programmes to enhance cooperation and friendships among its members, including Brunei Darussalam.
