Cuti-Cuti 1M`sia dance showcases unique culture
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - The Tourism Ministry Tuesday launched the Cuti-Cuti 1Malaysia dance which combines the various cultural dance elements in a bid to further boost tourism.
The new dance incorporates, among others, Zapin (Malay), Chinese, Indian, and Sabah and Sarawak ethnic dance elements.
The Cuti-Cuti 1Malaysia dance would be introduced to all the states and would also be promoted abroad so as to showcase Malaysia‘s unique culture, said Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen.
She said a cultural troupe would be formed with an annual allocation of RM3.8 million to make the programme a success, with the cooperation of the Information Communication and Culture Ministry.
"This is a Ministry effort to give tourists the chance to participate actively in the dance," Dr Ng said at the launching of the Cuti-cuti 1Malaysia dance at the Malaysia Tourist Information Centre (Matic), here, Tuesday.
"This is a tourism product, and we‘ve started the training abroad...in Shanghai and after that we will move on to Moscow, London. We only sent one trainer to teach the people there."
The culmination of the 1Malaysia dance promotion will be in the form of a cultural event to be held on Dec 6 at Dataran Merdeka. It is expected to be attended by the Prime Minister‘s wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and more than 12,000 people.
Dr Ng said members of the public interested to learn the dance could attend classes every Tuesday and Friday at Matic from 6pm to 7pm and at the Pavilion shopping complex every Saturday from November.
