Temple de Stano

a:3:{s:3:

Stano temple was found in Muaro Jambi district about 25 km north-east of present-day Jambi. Muaro Jambi which was located in the edge of Batanghari River is a village populated by hundreds of families. The site of the temple is about 500 meters north of the River.

Stano is a name given by the local people. It is so since some graves are in the temple complex. It is believed that the kings were buried in those graves. Stano in their language means the graves of king. Hence, the temple was named as Stano temple

The height of foundation is about 1.75 meters. The main part of the temple looks like stack of soil with bricks on it.  At the peak of the temple body, there is a third layer which measures 5.5m x 3.5 m with 5.08 in height. There is an empty space amidst this third part.

Related to the ornament, some parts of temple are decorated and others such as stairs are left unornamented. From the excavation in the temple complex, several artifacts such as sandy rock-arca with ankle bracelet in its foot, and some Chinese ceramics were found. The structure indicates that the Stano temple is one of the Buddhist temples which was built in about ninth or tenth century.
