CCMS Celebrates Malay Language Month

Kuala Belait, Brunei Darussalam - The Chung Ching Middle School in Seria recently marked the beginning of its Malay Language Month, which saw participation from all classes in a range of activities that included poetry recitation, a Malay forum, essay writing and Malay drama. The event was held in conjunction with Israk Mikraj.

For the poetry recitals, lower secondary students recited verses with aplomb and Hj Md Haneef Id' zann of Year Seven, earned the first prize courtesy of his poem 'Beloved Land' (Tanah Tercinta). Two other Year Seven students, Md Nasrullah bin Ramalan and Jong Fung Yen, won second and third place respectively.

Upper secondary students showcased a subtle selection of poems in which a Year 11 participant, Nur Munirra bte Muhammad Yusof, walked off with the first prize, while second and third prizes were won by Dk Nurul Asiqiyin bte Pg Ariffin, and Khong Yu Neng, respectively. Consolation prizes were awarded to Abdul Quawi bin Abdullah of Year Seven and Nur Diyana bte Md Shadan of Year 11.

Students from Years' 10 and 11 topped the Malay forum activity, which saw them hold discussions regarding a global food. The discussion provided a kaleidoscope of mental imagery regarding the nature of the problem and the steps that could be undertaken by nations to overcome it. They covered factors such as global resources and the unbalanced distribution of resources.

The Malay forum concluded with a pair of Year 11 students comprising Khong Yu Neng and Aravind Venketeswaran, selected as the winners. Another pair of students from Year 11, Michelle Lau Shu Qing, and Liew Su En, came in second place, while third place went to Lim Dit Yi and Theophilia Teo En Ze of Year 10.

The Malay drama, which permitted groups of eight students to participate for durations of 15-minutes, captivated the audience with their histrionic skills and witty dialogue.

The top-spot was clinched by Year 11 students acting out a play entitled `Ingat Sebalum kena, Jimat Sebalum habis'. Second place was awarded to another group of Year 11 students for their drama 'Air dicincang tidak akan putus'. Year Nine students bagged third place with their play `Medengar guruh di langit air di tempaya dicurahkan'.
