Call to Increase Scientific Writings in Malay Language

Langkawi, Malaysia - Malaysian Nuclear Agency director-general Datuk Dr Daud Mohamad has called on writers and publishers nationwide to increase the publication of scientific writings in the Malay language.

As such, he said, royalty, training and suitable incentives for the writers and publishers should also be increased to encourage them to produce more work in that language.

"We want to enhance and increase the number of scientific writings in the Malay language so that the writings could be understood by locals," he told a press conference after opening the Scientific Writings and Publishing Seminar 2010 here Monday.

Earlier in his speech, Daud said writing and publishing could serve as a medium to improve knowledge in the global competitive world.

"Hence, scientific writing and publishing should be improved with planning, training, translating and other methods because they will determine our position in the world’s publishing map," he said.

A total of 120 participants are taking part in the two-day seminar organised by the agency, with cooperation from Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka, Malaysian Radiation Protection Association and National Institute of Translation Malaysia.
