Cultural Performances by the Riau Malay Community from Indonesia

Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam - Negara Brunei Darussalam and Riau Indonesia have many similarities in terms of language and way of life, especially in culture and arts. Last night, the Riau Malay Community from the Peninsular Arts Training Centre, staged a Cultural Performance, Gelar Budaya Riau, at the Dewan Raya of Radio Television Brunei, in the capital.

Forty-five participants from the Riau Malay Community Peninsular Arts Training Centre were performing. The stage show was also highlighted with a Traditional Theatrical Performance, Bangsawan entitled, "Keris Menjadi Saksi" or "The Dagger is the Witness". The performance was the Centre's South East Asian road show which also includes traditional dances and theatrical performance aimed at strengthening relations among South East Asian nations. Present at the show was the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Jemat.
