Palembang, Indonesia -  Malaysian and Singaporean teams have confirmed their plans to participate in a dragon boat competition to be held as part of a Musi Festival 2010 on Dec 10 to 12, a local official said. The committee had invited a number of Asian countries to participate  in the Sriwijaya International Dragon Boat Festival and so far  Malaysia and Singapore had confirmed they would take part, head of tourism and culture office of Palembang city, Baharuddin Ali, said here Monday.

He added the committee would  wait  for confirmations from other countries until one day before the competition’s opening. He was optimistic more foreign  teams would register for the annual tournament in the  Musi river.

According to Baharuddin, besides the international participants,  teams representing  East Kalimantan, Riau, Jambi and Bangka Belitung had also indicated their readiness to take part in the dragon boat races. The event had been held annually in the Musi river for the past three years and become part of the local  tourism calendar, he added.
