Malaysia and Singapore to Participate in The Event in Indonesia
Palembang, Indonesia -Malaysian and Singaporean teams have confirmed their plans to participate in a dragon boat competition to be held as part of a Musi Festival 2010 on Dec 10 to 12, a local official said. The committee had invited a number of Asian countries to participatein the Sriwijaya International Dragon Boat Festival and so farMalaysia and Singapore had confirmed they would take part, head of tourism and culture office of Palembang city, Baharuddin Ali, said here Monday.
He added the committee wouldwaitfor confirmations from other countries until one day before the competition’s opening. He was optimistic more foreignteams would register for the annual tournament in theMusi river.
According to Baharuddin, besides the international participants,teams representingEast Kalimantan, Riau, Jambi and Bangka Belitung had also indicated their readiness to take part in the dragon boat races. The event had been held annually in the Musi river for the past three years and become part of the localtourism calendar, he added.
The Musi Festival would also feature a decorated motor boat contest and archipelagic culinary exhibition, Baharuddin said.He said, especially for the dragon boat competition, the committee would provide the participants with 10 boats.
The dragon boat contest and other competitions would be centered in the Musi river while the archipelagic culinary exhibitions would take place at the BentengKuto Besak Plaza, Baharuddin said.
