20 Varsities Participate in Cultural Festival
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia- The Malaysian Universities Cultural Council (MAKUM) will organise a Second Malaysian Universities Cultural Festival (FEStKUM) beginning Dec 15 to promote traditional culture among students of public institutions of higher learning.
The five-day festival will be held simultaneously at Universiti Utara Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia, the Arau branch of Universiti Teknologi Mara and Universiti Malaysia Perlis.
Twenty public institutions of higher learning will compete in eight events including 'Boria', 'Dikir Barat', 'Nyanyian Irama Malaysia', Malay Traditional Dances, Chinese Classic Dances and Indian Traditional Dances to emerge as champion and walk away with the RM22,000 cash prize, UniMAP Vice-Chancellor cum MAKUM Chairman Prof Datuk Dr Kamarudin Hussin told reporters after the soft launch of the festival at the Istana Budaya, here Wednesday.
The festival with the theme "1Malaysia Bangsa Berbudaya" would be officially launched by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Dr Hou Kok Chung. Also present will be the Director-General of Istana Budaya, Mohamed Juhari Shaarani.
The Raja Muda of Perlis, who is also UniMAP Chancellor, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail will officially close the festival at UniMAP on Dec 19.
