Indonesian Culture Comes to Islamabad

Islamabad, Pakistan - The “Indonesian Cultural Night” brought exquisite cultural performances, traditional dances and Indonesian fashion to the federal capital here late Saturday.

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia and Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) organized the show as part of Indonesian Cultural Week being celebrated at Federal Capital and Lahore till April 21.

Indonesian and Pakistani traditional songs and dances were blended in the show which aimed at introducing Pakistanis with the culture and traditions of Indonesia.

The show started off with Saman, a famous technique of dance from Aceh, followed by the tsunami-hit province’s cultural dance, Ganjen - a contemporary dance from Jakarta.

Other dances included Renggong dances, Tari Piring dances, and Tari Saman Dance while Indonesian fashion show and Indonesian songs were the major attraction of the event.

The event was organized to promote bilateral relations between the two countries as well as providing the residents of twin cities with excellent opportunities to enjoy the glimpses of cultural heritage of Indonesia.

Indonesian Cultural Week primarily focussed on Indonesian Batik and handicrafts Bazaar and Batik workshop to promote the art, culture and entertainment industry of Indonesia in Pakistan. Batik of Indonesia is popular in Pakistan with its unique techniques and innovative process of making handmade Batik items.
