Improving the writing skill of BKPBM`s crews
Yogyakarta, MelayuOnline.com- On Saturday, June 7th, 2008, Balai Kajian dan Pengembangan Budaya Melayu-BKPBM (The Center for Research and Development of Malay Culture), a non-governmental institution publishing three portal news concerning on Malay world, hosted Journalistic Training.. The training was begun at 2 p.m. finished at 4.30 p.m. participated by all BKPBM‘s crews. The training was opened by Human Resources Department Manager, Hadi Kurniawan representing the Head manager of BKPBM, Mahyudin Al Mudra.
Hopefully, this training would be able to boost up the writing skills of BKPBM‘s crews, to fulfil press standard. In his opening speech, Hadi Kurniawan said “BKPBM hosted this journalistic training after considering the urgency of writing skill, in journalism.”
In this journalistic training, BKPBM invented Putu Fajar Arcana – a senior journalist, editor and also vice manager from KOMPAS (daily newspaper) Jogja. Putu delivered some important points on journalism: hardnews and features. Hardnews or straightnews is a type of news that is written out based on the facts of an event happening in certain locations. In other words, hardnews is reporting news about specific events or topics. Therefore, Putu suggested that hardnews must include 5 W +1 H – what, when, where, who, why, and how.
Another type of news genres is feature. Differ from hardnews, feature gives the news writers latitude to bring an event into description based on their own voices and style. An event written out in a feature is usually added with writers‘ stance and imagination. “Commonly, feature writers are those having strong literature background.” Putu said
In that moment, Putu also conveyed some journalistic components that must be owned by news writers. He remarked that good news is news comprising lead, bridge, body, and closing. Besides, news writers must also be capable of writing news in interesting way to draw readers‘ curiosity.
At the end of the training, BKPBM, represented by Hadi Kurniawan, gave some souvenirs to Putu as BKPBM‘s gratitude. Hopefully, this could be the beginning of establishing close relationship between BKPBM and KOMPAS Jogja.
