Yogyakarta, MelayuOnline.com- Saturday (18/10/08) two special guests: Dato‘ Zainal Abidin Muhammad Zain, Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia; and Abdul Halim Saruji, the Director of Malaysia Tourism Promotion Board; took a visit to Balai Kajian dan Pengembangan Budaya Melayu-BKPBM (the Center for Research and Development of Malay Culture).
Amidst his busy schedule during in Yogyakarta for attending Malaysian Foods Festival, Muhammad Zain could spend a few minutes to take a visit to Balai Pinang Lima building, BKPBM‘s office. The retinue was welcomed cordially by Mahyudin Al Mudra – the head of BKPBM, Hadi Kurniawan – BKPBM‘s Daily Executive, Yuhastina Sinaro – BKPBM‘s Public Relations, and Nursaed Ali Rido – MelayuOnline.com‘s chief-in-editor.
Soon after arriving at Balai Pinang Lima, Muhammad Zain and the entourage looked around the entire building, which is also functioned as Malay cultural museum, and observed updating processes on MelayuOnline.com, MalayTourism.com, and RajaAliHaji.com.
In an informal gathering taken place in BKPBM‘s meeting hall, Mahyudin introduced BKPBM and its three cyber portals to the entourage. “BKPBM is a non-governmental institution endeavouring to document, preserve, and publish Malay cultural wealth to the entire part of the world,” he said.
Responding Mahyudin‘s brief presentation, Mr. Muhammad Zain responded positively to the existence of BKPBM. “We all know that Malay has numerous cultural heritages, but few who try to publish them. Many who study Malay culture, but rare who want to disseminate their works,” Mr. Muhammad Zain‘s remark.
Closing the short visit of Muhammad Zain and the entourage, Mahyudin gave a book entitled Masyarakat Melayu dan Budaya Melayu dalam Perubahan. From this introduction, both BKPBM and Malaysian Embassy wished that it could be an opening for co-operative networks to preserve and develop Malay culture in the world.
