Malay Culture

Ikan Pindang Serani

Ingredients :

  • ½ cup oil
  • 100 grams tamarind, mix with 3 cups of water
  • 500 grams kakap fish (sea bream), cut into pieces
  • 2 seeds red cayenne pepper, ground
  • Salt

Seasonings :

  • 3 cloves shallot 
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 3 cm turmeric
  • 1 cm halia (ginger root)
  • 3 cm belacan melaka  (Malay dried shrimp paste)

Directions :

  1. Heat the oil in saucepan, sauté all the seasonings until smelling aromatic
  2. Pour Add tamarind water and wait until boiled
  3. Add the kakap, red cayenne pepper, and salt to add flavor, wait until cooked through 
  4. Serve warm
