Singapore visitors set new record
Singapore- Visitors to Singapore reached 766,000 in September, setting a new record for the month in the drive for a yearly high of 10.2 million, the tourism board said on Tuesday. With Indonesia, China, Australia, India and Japan the top five visitor-generating markets, the September figures reflected 7.1 per cent growth compared with the same month last year.
"Among the top 15 markets, Vietnam, up 24.3 per cent, China, up 19.8 per cent and Australia, up 19.7 per cent, registered the highest growths," the board said.
It attributed the increases to strong marketing and travel promotions along with attractive airline packages.
Indonesians emerged top in numbers with 136,000, followed by China‘s 76,000, Australia‘s 71,000 India‘s 55,000 and Japan‘s 54,000.
A record-breaking 9.7 million visitors arrived in the city-state last year.
Increasing the city-state‘s slice of the Asian tourism pie is a key priority for the government, with two casino resorts planned for 2010 and an F1 Singapore Grand Prix next year.
