Symposium Delegates Wowed By Culture In Water Village

Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam  - Brunei Darussalam`s Water Village has left a fond impression for 21 delegates of the HAPUA Symposium on Enhancing Customer Services of Electricity Utilities", who took a day off to visit the Venice of the East, yesterday.

One of the delegates from Japan, Miss Miki Iyota of Kyushu Electric Power, said, "It`s my first time to Brunei and the water village has given a me a good impression of the traditional way of living in Brunei Darussalam.

"I like the traditional food here - it`s not too sweet - as well as the traditional dance which is slow and relaxing.

"Brunei is the first Asean country that I have visited and I feel Brunei is a very clean and crime free place to stay. I will surely come back with my family and friends again," she added.

Another delegate, Pornuma Harabutra from Thailand, said, "In our country, we have some sort of similar villages on water; however, it is not as huge as in Brunei.

"I am amazed at the old traditional culture of living on the water villages that are still preserved until today, passing down from generation to generation."

Accompanied by the Director of Planning and Corporate Services of the Department of Electrical Services, Haji Abdul Rahman bin Hj Modin, and officers from the Brunei-Muara District, the group of visitors arrived at the residence of Penghulu Mukim Tamoi, Pengarah Awang Haji Mokti Bin Md Salleh (James Kon).
