Salam from Cape Town (Rushdie Majiet)

I have been requested to write a few words about the melayuonline.com website on their anniversary.
In the countless times that I surfed the internet I stumbled across a very interesting website, melayuonline.com., like a golden nugget buried beneath mountains of sand.
I am from South Africa. My forefathers are from the Dunia Melayu (Indonesia/ Malaysia) who fought fiercely against the Portugese, Dutch & English occupations of their lands.
They were unjustly incarcerated & brought to South Africa in chains where some were imprisoned on Robben Island, the very same island where the world famous freedom fighter, Nelson Mandela, were to be imprisoned centuries later.
I am busy doing a lot of research on this part of our history here in South Africa and Melayuonline.com can be a real morale booster. It puts you completely in touch wth the Dunia Melayu world. There are so much overwhelmlingly mind-boggling information.
Their English are surprisingly good coming from non-English speakers. It will be linquistally encouraging if more Indonesian/Melayu words were to be used in the English section of the Melayuonline.com. This will compell the reader to find the meanings of these words and thus in the process will learn more about the language.
It will also be great if your website could be linked with the www.tanap.com <http://www.tanap.com/> website which is funded by the Dutch government. It will complement each other and be of great assistance to people doing research on the Dunia Melayu history.
On the anniversary of Melayuonline.com I can only congratulate them on a job well done! There are so many obstacles in their path and they manage to overcome all of these. I wish them all the best in their future endeavours.
Good luck.
