Mandi Belawat, Unique Local Malay Culture

Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam - Mandi Belawat is one of the traditional Malay Brunei culture still practised until today. It is celebrated after the birth of the eldest child and is usually held after 40 days from the day the baby was born. Concurrently done is the "aqiqah", which is the ‘slaughtering of a buffalo or goat’.

n One such event was held by a couple, Syah Rizal bin Haji Ismail and Nurol Hayati binti Abd Rahman, last Sunday. The baby was named Syifa Daia binti Syah Rizal. Many relatives and families attended the event, which included a dikir and the recital of doa selamat. Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
