The Governor of South Kalimantan Receives Sirih Emas Souvenir from BKPBM
The Governor of South Kalimantan, Ir. Rudy Ariffin, receiving the Sirih Emas from the Head of BKPBM
Banjarmasin, MelayuOnline.com—As an effort to strengthen the kinship of Banjar culture and BKPBM (Center of Malay Research and Development), last night, the Governor of South Kalimantan received a Sirih Emas (golden betel leaf) souvenir from BKPBM.
The souvenir giving was included in the “Badadapatan Night for the Participants of Banjar Cultural Congress II”, which was held in Mahligai Pancasila, South Kalimantan Governor Office Complex.
“This souvenir is an expression of kinship, unition and integrity BKPBM always gives to anyone who spare their attention on the importance of cultural kinship. One of them is South Kalimantan Province,” explained the Head of BKPBM, Mahyudin Al Mudra.
The Governor of South Kalimantan, Ir. Rudy Ariffin expressed his delight in receiving the souvenir from BKPBM.
In his speech, Rudy Ariffin stated that, “I feel so delighted to see how Banjar culture has been so influencial abroad. Hopefully this friendship lasts forever.”
The Sirih Emas souvenir possesses several meanings. In Malay culture, chewing betel symbolizes kinship, unition and sincerity in friendship which later becomes a tradition in almost all Malay ethnic groups. In the souvenir given to the Governor of South Kalimantan, the friendship and close kinship are symbolized in the betel leaf, while the gold color of the betel leaf symbolizes the glory of Malay civilization.
“My greatest gratitude and appreciation for BKPBM for this souvenir. Banjar culture is indeed a part of Malay culture whose cultural works can be witnessed,” explained Rudy Ariffin.
In addition to the souvenir from BKPBM, Rudy Ariffin also received a souvenir from Banjar community in Sabah.
In the “Badadapatan”, the participants were also served with dinner by the Governor of South Kalimantan. The representative of Banjar community in North Sumatra delivered his speech to express their pleasure.
Besides this series of agenda, the “Badadapatan” also presented dance performance which involved Banjar youth. The performance of Kipas Putri dance was charming. This dance depicts how women deal with men’s sweet talk by using a hand fan. There were also the performances of Bapandung, Mamandu Tubau and Mahidin. (ATP/brt/21/04-10)
