Cultural Centers Needed by Indonesia and Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Indonesia and Malaysia need to build a same stock cultural center in the respective countries as recommended by the eminent persons group (EPG), as one of the most potential source of conflict is culture.
"Indonesia-Malaysia tension had developed several times, and thedemonstrations that had been held in front of the Malaysian embassy in Jakarta had been triggered by cultural conflicts. It is therefore most important to form Indonesia-Malaysia cultural centers in the respective countries," spokesman for EPG Indonesia Dr Musni Umar said in Jakarta in a telephone interview Monday.
The Indonesia-Malaysia EPG formed by the two countries’ heads of government had also recommended the need for Indonesia - Malaysia cultural centers in the two countries. The EPG will attend the annual 7th consultative meeting between President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak inKuala Lumpur on May 18 and 19, 2010.
"We in the EPG will hold a seminar and launch a book on reviving Indonesia-Malaysia welfare collective memory on May 19 at the Malaysian historical center pavilion,"Dr Musni, a Jakarta Islamic University lecturer, said.
