Yachts from Various Countries Start Flocking to Wakatobi

Jakarta, Indonesia - Twenty yachts from various European countries, the United States and Australia, have arrived in Wakatobi, Southeast Sulawesi, to take part in the Wakatobi Cultural Festival, an official said on Sunday.

“Twelve of the yachts arrived today, while eight others on Saturday,” Wakatobi Regent Hugua said as quoted by the Antara news agency. They are part of 146 yachts expected to join the festival, which will begin on Aug. 13, 2010.

He said that the 12 yachts which arrived on Sunday had sailed from East Nusa Tenggara. The boats initially planned to take part in the Sail Banda event in Maluku, but decided not to continue their trips to Banda due to bad weather.

"Because of the bad weather the yachts changed course to Wakatobi to take part in the Wakatobi Cultural Festival," Hugua said.
