Indonesian, Malaysian Primary School Students to Meet in Pangkalpinang

Pangkalpinang, Indonesia - Indonesian and Malaysian primary school students will meet here to exchange their academic experiences in October, a local education official said.

Under the sister school partnership program, a number of students of the "Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Taman Megah Petaling Selanggor" (primary school) will visit here, Edison Taher said on Friday.

This head of Pangkalpinang city`s education office said the Malaysian pupils would study at SDN 3 public elementary school along with their Indonesian peers for two weeks.

"The Selangor primary school`s participating students will be able to come here in October thanks to the Indonesia-Malaysia sister school program," Taher said.

The SDN 3 is one of the most favorite primary schools in Pangkalpinang, he said.

"We have yet to know about the exact number of Malaysian students to join this sister school program but during their visit, they will stay at the house of an Indonesian student`s parents," he said.

During their visit, the Malaysian students did not only join the academic activities but also learn about local cultures and Indonesian families` values, he said.

Taher said all expenses of this visiting program would jointly be burdened by those in charge of the local school committee and sister school program, which had existed for years and provenly given positive contributions to the participating schools.

The ups and downs of the two neighboring countries` relationship did not even affect it, he said.

"The Malaysian authorities have highly appreciated its educational cooperation with us," he said.

In enlarging and strengthening this partnership with Malaysia, he said ten Pangkalpinang-based schools were encouraged to seek for their Malaysian sister schools (from primary to high school), he said.
