Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam - Malaysia is committed to further strengthening its ties with Brunei Darussalam through the exchange of arts and cultural programmes, particularly under the "Titian Budaya" (Cultural Bridge) programme, the Malaysian Minister of Information, Communication and Culture said yesterday.

Datuk Seri Utama Dr Rais Yatim was speaking to reporters after receiving Brunei's Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Lai la Diraj a Dato Paduka Awg Hj Hazair bin Hj Abdullah in a courtesy call in Putrajaya, Bernama reported yesterday.

The three-day programme between Brunei and Malaysia begins today, at the Istana Budaya in Kuala Lumpur.

During the courtesy call, Pehin Dato Paduka Hj Hazair discussed with his counterpart the possibility of art and cultural exchange programmes to include art theatre, art, and library and museums.

Both ministers agreed to augment cooperation in those areas especially through training and work exchange programmes.

This includes documentary making related to culture and heritage.

According to Datuk Dr Rais, "Titian Budaya" is meant to enable both countries to share a common platform to promote each other's arts and cultural traditions, as well as other types of activities such as joint training for the arts and culture academies of both countries and exchange of reading materials between libraries.

"We agree to enhance existing cooperation, including the possibility of carrying out exchange of documentaries between Radio Television Malaysia and Radio Television Brunei," said the Malaysian minister.

The "Titian Budaya Malaysia-Brunei" programme was first held in 2006 in Brunei.

Pehin Dato Paduka Hj Hazair also paid a courtesy call on Dato' Ahmad Shabery Cheek, Malaysia's Minister of Youth and Sports to discuss and exchange views on issues of youth and sports.

The ministers agreed to heighten efforts to enhance the already established cooperation between the two countries.
