Showcase of Indonesian Culture
Kuala Belait, Brunei Darussalam - Indonesian expatriates working at Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) organised a one-day Indonesia Day to showcase their culture and traditions yesterday at Panaga Club.
Themed "Amazing Indonesia: Celebration of Diversity", the event showcased Indonesian culture and traditions through food, music, art and handicraft.
The expatriates came dressed in various costumes from different parts of Indonesia.
Visitors got to enjoy the Gamelan showcase, which is an ensemble of Balinese and Javanese music featuring an assortment of instruments such as meallophones, drums, gongs and bamboo flutes, as well as bowed and plucked strings.
Traditional music of Kulintang from North Sulawesi was also featured.
There were also dance performances from Bali, Lampung, Dolanan, Yapong, Angin Mamiri, Aceh Bungo, Jeupma and Merak.
Also lined up for the day was a children's fashion show, where 38 children from different parts of Indonesia were sported in traditional costumes of Jawa, Sulawesi, Lampung, Sunda, Madura, Batak, Bali, Ponorogo, Padang, Dayak, Makasar, Kalimantan and Melayu. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
