Market Arts, Culture Globally, Urged Raja Muda of Perlis

Kangar, Malaysia - The Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Putra Faizuddin Jamalullail said the Malaysian arts and culture could be commercialised globally as long as the proprietary rights were not mortgaged.

He said as such professionals should study the feasibility of marketing the Malaysian arts and culture globally.

Arts and culture are not merely dances but also encompass other creative endeavours, including food which can be marketed on a bigger scale, he said when closing the Malaysian Universities Cultural Festival here last night.

Tuanku Syed Putra Faizuddin, who is also Universiti Malaysia Perlis chancellor, said neglecting arts and culture would not only stifle the commercialisation process but would also undermine the crystallisation of strong morals and values among the younger generation.

Twenty public institutions of higher learning contested in acoustic band, boria, international songs, the rhythm of Malaysia, Chinese, Indian and Malay traditional dances, and dikir barat.

Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) emerged as the overall champion followed by Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia as the runner-up and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in the third place.

The festival was organised by the Higher Education Ministry and the Malaysian Universities Cultural Council with the cooperation of the National Culture and Arts Department, RTM and Harian Metro.
