Indonesia Involved in Jury Team of Bali Unesco Meeting

Jakarta, Indonesia - Indonesia is to be involved in the assessment team of the sixth Inter-Governmental Committee for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO (IGC-ICH UNESCO) in Bali, Culture and Tourism Minister said here Monday (March 28).

"As host for the event, Indonesia will be one of the adjudicators of the sixth IGC-ICH UNESCO in Bali in November to assess nominated intangible heritage sites of 142 countries in the world," Minister Jero Wacik said after signing registration documents on Indonesian cultural heritage sites here Monday.

By being one of the adjudicators in the event held by UNESCO, Indonesia played a more important role in preserving the cultural heritage sites of the world.

"When we proposed batik and angklung to be approved by UNESCO last year, we just waited for the results, but now we are involved in the jury team and decide the winners," Jero said.

RI on Monday had registered three intangible cultural heritage sites to be approved by UNESCO, namely Balinese traditional dances, Noken handicraft and Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII).

Those three intangible cultural heritage sites are involved in the representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritages (Balinese traditional dances), Urgent Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage (Noken handicraft) and Best Practice of Intangible Cultural Heritages (TMII).

RI also had registered the Cultural Landscape of Bali Province and Saman dance from Aceh at UNESCO, and a decision will be made in Bali in November this year.
