Poetry Recital At UBD Malay Literature Festival

Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam - The Malay Literature programme at the Faculty of Literature & Social Sciences under Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) yesterday kicked off its Literature Festival 2011 with a Brunei Folklore Colouring contest for children at the Yayasan Sultan Hj Hassanal Bolkiah Complex in Bandar Seri Begawan.

The festival also saw exhibition booths and various activities lined up for participants such as a poetry recital competition.

According to the event organisers, the festival is a gift to the great efforts and abilities of students currently pursuing their studies in Literature Management and Malay Drama subjects.

"Students taking the literature management course are the first batch of the GenNExt programme, which aims to realise UBD’s hopes of producing brilliant students that can promote innovation, leadership and entrepreneurship in their respective fields."

The organisers also added that the challenges faced by members of the festival committee is a test to polish skills vital for the transition from university into the actual working environment when their academic term comes to an end.

A drama production entitled ’Hang Samalindang’ will be staged for students at Radio Televisyen Brunei (R111) Hall at 3.45pm on Wednesday (April 27).

The same performance will he repealed later that evening for the public and invited guests.

The festival is part of the practical work included in the Literature Management course, which exposes students to the world of entrepreneurship, in the literary context.
