Boost For Malay Language
Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam - There is a need for more literary works highlighting the significance of Malay literature and culture in today's world, according to speakers at the Seminar on Malay Studies in the Evolution of Civilisation within the Malay Archipelago held at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) yesterday.
As the language becomes a modern medium of communication, it faces challenges which means research and publications must be expedited to ensure the language's survival in the face of globalisation.
As one of the major languages in the world, fourth in terms of speakers, the Malay Language cannot escape global challenges and yesterday the speakers called for unity in promoting the language with neighbouring countries Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore.
Organised by the Malay Literature Programme, Literature and Social Sciences Faculty of UBD, the seminar discusses the efforts to promote and develop the Malay Language as a means of communication as well as language of the arts, science and technology as well as other forms of knowledge.
The seminar which ends today brings together speakers and lecturers from various institutions in the region.
