UBD To Hold Religious Seminar To Explore Root Of Sexual Deviation

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Syariah Department of Institut Pengajian Islam Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien (IPSOAS) will be organising a "Fiqh Semasa" seminar on February 20 at UBD, which will among other things explore the root of sexual deviation from an Islamic perspective.

Themed "Bersama Memikul Tanggungjawab Mencegah Kemungkaran", the one-day seminar will identify methods to overcome this problem and analyse various questions relating to sexual deviation.

History has shown that modernisation and progress in developed countries have come with a decline in moral, religious and cultural values. This can be seen with the occurrence of movements, which advocate abortion, same sex marriages and freedom of prostitution.

The modemisation process, which has also occurred in Brunei, is a worrying dilemma and may cause similar events to occur and also weaken cultural values and religion in society.

A number of working papers will be presented during the one-day seminar, which is open to academic members, government officers, students, youths from associations and the public.

Registration fees for students will be $10, while the rest will have to pay $15. The closing date for registration is February 14. For more information, call 2463001 (extension 1434/1828/1827) or fax 2460759.
