Eleven delegates for MABBIM

Eleven delegates for MABBIM

Bandar Seri Begawan - Eleven literary scholars will be representing Brunei at the 47th Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia Language Council (MABBIM) conference at Jakarta, Indonesia from April 7-11.

The delegation will be headed by Dr Mataim bin Bakar, Director of Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) and Chairman of the Brunei Darussalam Malay Language Permanent Committee (JKTBMBD).

The aim of the conference is to validate matters concerning the basis of language, results of the Skills Conference, Secretariat Meeting, and MABBIM`s future/five-year work plan. Furthermore, plans of other language activities susceptible to the efforts of the council`s agreement will also be discussed.

A seminar on "Memartabatkan Bahasa Nasional dalam Upaya Meningkatkan Ketahanan Budaya Serumpun" will also be discussed by MABBIM members, including Singapore.

There will also be a celebration to commemorate MABBIM`s 35th year of establishment, where a number of events have been prepared by the host to make the event more joyous, one of which will be the MABBIM Awards.

The Bruneian delegation will be comprised of Dato Paduka Hj Ahmad bin Kadi (JKTBMBD member), Mohd Hj Zaini bin Hj Omar (JKTBMBD member/receiver of the MABBIM Figure Award), Mohd Azurin bin Othman (JKTBMBD Secretary), Hjh Saddiah bte Ramli (Assistant Secretary of JKTBMBD), Dr Hj Azmi bin Abdullah (debator), Dr Siti Norkhalbi bte Hjh Wahsalfelah (debator), Professor Madya Dr Hjh Zaiton bte Hj Mohd Taha (receiver of the MABBIM Scholar Award), Dr Hj Sablee bin Aspar (receiver of the MABBIM Scholar Award), Dr Sylviana bte Hj Moris (receiver of the MABBIM Scholar Award), and Hjh Rusita bte Hj Yahya (receiver of the MABBIM Scholar Award).

The delegates will depart for Jakarta, Indonesia in two groups, both of whom will be leaving within this week.
