Students visit heritage sites under Regional Studies Programme

Students visit heritage sites under Regional Studies Programme

Singapore - It was lessons away from the classes as some 30 Secondary One students from Anglo—Chinese School (Independent) embark on field trips to learn more about the history of early Singapore.

The field trips come under the Regional Studies Programme (RSP) which includes a new module called "Understanding Southeast Asia" (USEA).

For one group, it was a learning journey to the Malay Heritage Centre and the Kampong Glam Area to get to know more about the early Malay and Arab settlers in Singapore.

The students also got to try the different games played in the past, including some hands—on lessons on how to put on a sarong.

This is the first batch of ACSI students taking part in the RSP programme.

Mr Nicholas Kho, ACSI student, says he has learnt many things, including the games, the food and how his father went through his kampong life in the early days.

Mr Mohd Shamsuri Juhari, Programme Coordinator of ACSI, says the programme gives students the freedom to discover the various cultures they are interested in, and allow them to do more research on their chosen culture.
